I woke up last Thursday morning to find Seymour the wonder cat in his usual position, asleep on the end of the bed.
However, in a new twist, he had beside him a little pile of feathers.
Since then, Ive found collections of feathers in random places (in my wardrobe, on the bench and in the bath) but as yet havent managed to find whatever it was that used to be attached to said feathers.
That whole situation has proved a bit distracting, as I check every pair of shoes before putting them on and inspect every handbag before use, searching for the remains of some poor wee birdie that met its demise at the hands (or paws) of Seymour.
Even now, hes sitting beside me with a not-so-innocent look on his furry little face, as if hes mocking me because he knows where the body is hidden.
I thought Id hit paydirt yesterday morning when I felt something small and a bit squishy underfoot as I got out of bed %26mdash; but no, it was actually one of his catnip toys. Im not sure if I was relieved that it wasnt a dead critter or disappointed that the mystery of the feathers wasnt solved.
Since I know our assistant editor is so fond of cat stories (hi Steve), Ill kick off with the talking cats videos.
It started with a video of two noisy little moggies being posted on YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3U0udLH974). It very nearly had it all: drama, intrigue, excitement and chemistry.
However, it was lacking subtitles.
Some bright spark decided to translate for those of us who dont speak cat, and the result is perfection (www.youtube.com/watch?v=56HNf3Qw9io).
Next on my list of must-see YouTube videos is an improv event from New York (www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwMj3PJDxuo). You take 200-plus people, turn up at Grand Central Station and at a predetermined time, everyone freezes on the spot for several minutes.
Then, like magic, they all start moving again at the same time. The reactions of onlookers are classic.
Maybe we should try that on Esk St on a Friday night just to confuse the hell out of the boy racers.
Finally, Im guessing there may be a couple of people out there who havent yet seen the hilarious Sarah Silverman/Jimmy Kimmel videos (be warned, they contain some colourful language, so arent suitable for viewing at the office or around children).
It all started with Silverman recording a special birthday song for Kimmel, the man in her life, with the help of their friend Matt Damon (http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=wnVJZkDuVBM). Kimmel responded in like form with help from a star-studded cast that included Ben Affleck, Meatloaf, Robin Williams, Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt (http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=sIQrBouWRiE).
Customer service dramas update, week 7: No change on the Telecom front. Ive scoured the Telecom and Xtra websites to see if perhaps there is some kind of rule that says %26quot;we never say sorry%26quot; or %26quot;we will never explain to you peasants just why you might not get the service you pay for%26quot; but as yet, Ive found nothing.
The score remains: NZ Post 1, Telecom nil.
