Teacher of the Week | Tracy Webley

Age: Must I share everything? Reason for becoming a teacher: Growing up in a large family with many younger siblings made teaching become a necessity and later a passion. Greatest moment as a teacher: Watching an able-bodied child in a reading circle elbow the wheelchair of a disabled student and say, “Scoot over Simon,” as if the wheelchair were invisible. Most embarrassing moment as a teacher: Having my students beg me not to sing. Favorite aspects of being a teacher: Being around children, because they are naturally very positive. Being with happy children every day makes you smile. Least favorite part of teaching: There is never enough time in a day to complete the things on my “To Accomplish” list. Favorite movies: Big Fish. Last book you read: I participate in Clarcona’s Book Club. We are reading Checking for Understanding by Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey. Favorite hobbies: Running and snow skiing. Family: Children: Sean, Kristen and Shannon; dog: Roxy. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be and why? I can’t imagine not working with children every day. Hopefully soon I will become an assistant principal; the idea of making a positive difference in the many classrooms is exciting to me. Person you most admire and why: My children, for being true to themselves, staying active and focusing on school. COURTESY OF TRACY WEBLEY
