Age: 61. Reason for becoming a teacher:To graduate from UF as soon as possible, but I found it to be always interesting to be with young people, and a great vocation. Greatest moment as a teacher: Having a student return to me as an adult and say, ‘Thank you.’ Most embarrassing moment as a teacher: Substituting for my son’s AP American history class and embarrassing him in front of the class (Yes, a girl was involved). Favorite aspects of being a teacher: Meeting new students and their families. The challenge of something new every day. Least favorite part of teaching: Grading anything objectively. Favorite movies: Babe. Last book you read: Atonement. Favorite hobbies: Grandchildren, boating and reading. Family: Married 38 years to Chuck, children Michelle, 32, and Michael, 30. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be and why? Chief executive officer for a Fortune 500 company because it would create a chance to lead and a way to travel. Person you most admire and why:My mom, she was a kind and gentle soul and a friend to all. She was a very interesting person and interested in others first. She was a strong person and married to the same man for 63 years. Full-time public and private school teachers in Lake County are eligible for nomination.
