Age: Twenty-something Reason for becoming a teacher: I have wanted to be a teacher since the first day I set foot in a school. I understand the importance of learning and like the challenge of making it fun and relevant for students. Greatest moment as a teacher: When students learn something and do not realize they are learning! Most embarrassing moment as a teacher: I had a student who lived with her mother and her aunt. I called home to talk to her mom, but another person answered the phone. I asked if I was speaking to the girl’s aunt. The person replied, “No. This is her uncle.” Favorite aspects of being a teacher: I love that my job doesn’t seem like “work” at all. I teach my favorite subject to 150 kids that I really care about. Least favorite part of teaching: The 7 a.m. arrival time. I’m more of a 10 o’clock kind of person. Favorite movies: Finding Nemo, Harry Potter, Rush Hour Last book you read: A group of students and I are reading and discussing The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Favorite hobbies: After school, I sponsor French Club, Sophomore Class Council and an FCAT/SAT prep program. In my free time, I enjoy sleeping and eating. Family: I was raised in Central Florida by my parents, Matt and Donna Graham. My brother, Matt, is also a local high school teacher. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be and why? It would be interesting to be a linguist for the government. A linguist highly skilled in the subtleties of a language can help identify key aspects of a person’s identity (geographical location, age, education, etc.) by hearing that person speak. Who you most admire: My late grandfather, Arthur Ekiert, because he was shrewd, honest and incredibly funny. APOPKA HIGH SCHOOL
