Age: 40 Reason for becoming a teacher: I wanted to make a difference in a child’s life. Greatest moment as a teacher: When a parent told me that his child started talking more and he said “I love you” for the first time! There are many great moments working with children who have autism. I love seeing them reach milestones that they have worked very hard to reach. These milestones many of us take for granted. For example, requesting toys, playing with peers and simple self-help skills like drinking from a cup independently! Most embarrassing moment as a teacher: While I was singing at circle time, one of my students put his hands over his ears and said, “Stop, Mrs. Scott, stop!” We had visitors in our classroom that day. We all had a good laugh! I guess I will never make it as a singer! Favorite aspects of being a teacher: Being able to make a difference in the lives of my students and their parents and helping my children with handicaps become more independent. Least favorite part of teaching: Paperwork. Favorite movies: A Walk to Remember, Pirates of the Caribbean Last book you read: Developing the Leader Within You by John C. Maxwell Favorite hobbies: Scrapbooking, spending time at the beach with my family and friends. Family: Husband, James Scott; children, Victoria Scott and Thomas Scott, and two dogs — Ginger and Sparky. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be and why? Professional photographer. I love to take pictures and capture special moments to keep memories alive. Person you most admire and why: My mother. She has a lot of faith and is always patient and kind to others. She always sees the good in others and hardly ever complains when things get difficult. My mother has taught me to have a positive attitude no matter what life may bring to you.
