Jamee Cagle Seminole County teacher of the week

Age: 28. Reason for becoming a teacher: I made the decision to go into education early in my life as a result of the positive influence of my own teachers and the desire within myself to offer the same to future generations. Greatest moment as a teacher: Every time a parent or a family member comes to me and says that I have made a difference in the life of their child. Most embarrassing moment as a teacher: Oh, boy . . . telling a group of students to be very careful in the media center and then knocking my enormous cup of water over onto the carpet. . . . Got to love it. Favorite aspects of being a teacher: I absolutely love the look on a child’s face when he or she finally gets something after struggling to understand the concept. I love sharing my passion for learning and seeing it rub off on my students. More than anything, I love seeing my students excited about what we are doing in class. What a joy! Least favorite part of teaching: Learning about the tough situations my students face outside school. Favorite movies: Bruce Almighty, Father of the Bride and Billy Madison. Last book you read: The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks. Favorite hobbies: Reading, traveling, scrapbooking, baking and going to the beach. Family: My fianc%26#65533;, Gilbert; my parents, Gerry and Christy Cagle; and my four-legged furry children, Mocha and Liza. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be and why? I honestly can’t imagine myself outside the field of education. If I weren’t a teacher, I imagine I would hold a position in educational leadership or work at the university level. Person you most admire and why: My mother, for overcoming great obstacles with amazing poise and grace. My grandmother, for her dedication to kids and families. At 79, she runs an incredible program on an elementary school campus to provide for the needs of underprivileged students. Full-time public- and private-school teachers in Seminole County are eligible for nomination. Nominators can be students or their parents, school staffers and friends, but not family members of the teacher. Information needed is the nominator’s name, phone number, the teacher’s name, school, grade they teach and a brief reason for their nomination. Nominations are limited to the first 40 received.
