Age: 26 Reason for becoming a teacher: My mother is an educator. Over the years, hearing the great stories of how she was able to reach some of her students and make a difference in their lives, I too wanted to seek that path. I worked my way through college as a paraprofessional, which opened my eyes to the field. I began to enjoy when the “light bulb” would go off when they finally understood a concept that they had previously struggled with. I knew then for sure that teaching was what I wanted to do. Greatest moment as a teacher: So far it has been the connections I have made with parents and students. Most embarrassing moment as a teacher: It was with my principal, who came out of a meeting one day to see me with a green shirt on. Since I am a staggering 5-foot-6, she called me a leprechaun. Later that afternoon, she brought me a pail with some gold coins in it, and I just then found my pot of gold! Favorite aspects of being a teacher: The children. No matter what happens, they always seem to put a smile on my face when I need it the most. Least favorite part of teaching: Paperwork, trainings, FCAT! Favorite movies: Pirates of the Caribbean; EuroTrip; The Departed; The Sandlot . . . and too many more to name. Last book you read: Since I read kids’ books, it is the Prophet of Yonwood by Jeanne DuPrau. Favorite hobbies: Sports (flag football, basketball). Family: No children, but I have a beautiful fianc%26#65533;e, Arlene Rodriguez, who teaches as well. We have a dog, Cooper. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be and why? Sports broadcaster. I love sports and would love to work firsthand with athletes, commentating on the games and performances. Person you most admire and why: My mother. She taught me everything I needed to know and made me the man I am today. She would always come home and talk to me about what went on in her school, and it made me want to get into the field and try to make changes to the things that I could.
