Constable Alun Griffiths, of Riverton, said an intoxicated young woman had vandalised numerous buildings, including two churches, the RSA, a veterinary clinic and a car parked on the towns main street about midnight on Saturday.
%26quot;It was disgusting given that the Easter races are such a showpiece for Riverton and the place looked like a ghetto on Sunday morning.%26quot; After the offender realised what she had done, she snuck back to attempt to make amends by painting over her handiwork, he said.
The damage could cost several thousand dollars to fix.
Police arrested the 17-year-old female offender on Monday and charged her with several counts of intentional damage after tracking her down through her tag name, Mr Griffiths said.
The tagging was the third graffiti-related incident in four weeks in Riverton.
Each incident had been unrelated and the other offenders had been caught and dealt with by Youth Aid, he said.
Riverton Community Board chairman Blair Stewart said graffiti was never a good look but he did not believe Riverton had too much of a problem.
%26quot;I dont think its a problem …
certainly any graffiti in any place is a bad look for any town,%26quot; he said.
He hoped the recent spate of graffiti attacks would be a one-off.
Riverton police were also looking for information about a group of young men seen shooting paintball guns at each other about midnight on Saturday.
