On January 12, the body of 18-year-old South Otago man Michael Hutchings was found weighted down in the Clutha River and two people have been accused of his murder. Colin Bruce Taylor, of Barnhill, 47, has been charged with manslaughter after the death of Alistair Day during a brawl at Mossburn on February 2. And on Thursday, a father and daughter were found shot dead near Isla Bank.
Invercargill Victim Support co-ordinator Don Wisely said they had workers and volunteers spread throughout the region and the organisation was coping well with the influx of serious crime.
He could not say if there was an increase in the amount of homicides or serious crime events in Southland.
%26quot;Any family violence is one too many, its the same with homicides, one is too many.%26quot; Each case was different and Victim Support would help in any way necessary depending on the needs of the family, Mr Wisely said.
%26quot;We cant say whats going to happen, everythings different so weve really got to gear ourselves to the family.%26quot;
