Boys is sporting a big smile after shooting his first stag on Tuesday %26mdash; a tidy-looking six-pointer %26mdash; as well as enjoying a protracted stint in the Highlanders No 7 jersey.
Mackintosh had also been waiting to bag his first stag and he managed to shoot another six-pointer only an hour after Boys.
The regular hunting buddies went bush in the Catlins on Monday night, opting to spend their day off training by doing a bit of hunting on Tuesday.
To say the two Southlanders were delighted to bag two six-point stags would be something of an understatement.
%26quot;It was pretty awesome. We were pretty stoked, all right,%26quot; Boys told The Southland Times.
%26quot;Hopefully its a good sign,%26quot; Boys joked yesterday as he eyed tomorrow nights game against South African team the Sharks at Carisbrook.
Boys and Mackintosh are part of a large group of Stags and Highlanders players who are regular hunters.
During the Air New Zealand Cup season the pair often go bush with rifle in hand alongside Stags co-coaches Simon Culhane and David Henderson.
Highlanders players Clint Newland and Tom Donnelly have also been regulars during this years Super 14 season.
