The only New Zealand contender in the vote, Queenstown was last night running in 16th spot, sandwiched between Zurich, Switzerland, and Kyiv, Ukraine.
Though delighted with the support to date, Destination Queenstown is on a campaign to up the ante.
Not only is the tourism body distributing postcards and flyers promoting its cause, its latest newsletter asks Queenstowners to %26quot;tell your friends and family, your neighbour, the random person you meet on the street — spread the word%26quot; .
Communications manager Naomi Mentiplay said it would be a great marketing angle for the town if it got on the game board.
%26quot;Just to make the top 20 is fantastic but we want to keep up the momentum and stay there … and possibly go even higher.%26quot; The five highest ranked cities as of last night were Paris, London, New York, Montreal and Sydney.
Worldwide voting will continue throughout this month.
