While Southland motor racing fans have enjoyed some exciting motor racing when classes such as the New Zealand V8s and other premier categories have visited Teretonga Park in recent years, the 2008 encounters will have an extra edge with some of the best action ever.
Those series that will be fighting out their final round to find their 2007-08 Champions at Teretonga are the New Zealand V8s Championship, the Toyota Racing Series Championship, the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup Championship, the MTA Formula Ford Championship and the Mini Challenge.
With the current competitive state of New Zealand motor racing it seems certain most, if not all, of those championships will come down to the wire at Teretonga Park.
The hosting of the final round of these championship battles is a real coup for Teretonga Park.
After providing some of the most impressive attendances at the annual summer series meetings during the past few seasons southern motor race fans will now be able to watch the climax of the battles that have been raging at circuits around the country since early in November.
%26quot;The loyalty of Southlanders in supporting the series and the circuit has been rewarded with the opportunity to witness the crowning of five New Zealand motor racing champions,%26quot; Southland Sports Car Club president Wayne Shieffelbein said yesterday.
More than 16,000 people attended last years event at Teretonga while a peak audience of 160,000 enjoyed the television coverage, the highest viewer figures for last seasons summer series.
Last season the V8 championship was not decided until the final race of the final round as John McIntyre and Kayne Scott battled their way through the field in the reverse grid race. A similar scenario in 2008 would be the icing on the cake for the countrys most passionate motor racing fans.
Before the finale arrives at Teretonga in March, Southlanders will be treated to a spectacular entree when the Leitch Motorsport/ Southland Times Classic SpeedFest takes place on February 16-17.
Entries have been received from Hong Kong, Canada, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and all around New Zealand.
An announcement regarding some of the most exciting cars ever to be seen at the traditional classic event is expected from the Southland Sports Car Club in the near future.
Tickets for the events are are also on sale from GWD Russells Parts Department, in Yarrow St, Invercargill, and Auto Centre, in Tweed St.
