The offspring of rock legend Ozzy and his outspoken wife Sharon, she has been a wild child, stage actress and star of fly-on-the-wall TV show The Osbournes.
She currently hosts Radio 1 Sunday night teen advice show The Surgery. And here, in a guest column, she outlines her credentials before she tries her hand at answering problems sent to The Sun by young people.
FIRSTLY, I would like to let you guys know that I don’t see myself as a role model or believe that I lead the perfect life — in fact, far from it.
It wasn’t until last year that my life started to take a direction that I felt proud of.
But even then I’d never have thought that I would be giving advice on Radio 1’s The Surgery — because I just don’t see myself as someone to look up to.
Although I’m always willing to give advice from the things I’ve experienced — and let’s face it, there have been a few — I see it as a massive privilege to be given the opportunity to work on a show that offers teenagers help while giving them a voice.
But I didn’t realise how much I was taking on. It’s such a responsibility, and I often leave the show feeling I’ve got this massive weight on my shoulders, especially when there has been a call from a 14-year-old who’s pregnant and homeless.
I worry that I can’t relate to that. Or sometimes I leave on a high because I’ve been able to help someone who probably didn’t have anyone else to turn to.
Five months in and I’m really starting to enjoy the show. I’ve put in a lot of work researching the subjects and making sure I give the right advice.
There have been so many things that I’ve learnt doing the show — I could write an in-depth report on the sexually transmitted infection chlamydia!
It’s also got to the point where I’m making my friends in the pub play uess the facts? because I’m so read up on stuff.
Don’t get me wrong, some people still see me as a 15-year-old living with — and off — her parents. There will always be some who will see me as the chubby, spoilt, whining brat of a rock star who’s a bit nutty and always managing to get herself into trouble.
But I’ve grown up a lot and often feel older than my 23 years. I’m not well-read in an academic sense, but I’m savvy and I look after myself.
And now I’ve been given this opportunity to give the teen readers of The Sun advice — and I hope I can help today.Close_quote
