Park Bench In Memory Of Long-Time Resident

Frances was diagnosed with cancer in 1997 and fought valiantly through rounds of chemotherapy, each time looking forward to riding her bike again and pursuing her other hobbies of gardening and pottery, said Debbrecht.

Mom passed away in 2006 after a nine-year battle with ovarian cancer. Believe it or not, she would go through six months of chemo, recover for a few months, and then be back on her bike. She went through six cycles of chemotherapy over the nine years, and always focused on how soon she could be back on the bike,” she said.

“Mom continued to pursue her other hobbies and interests throughout her battle with cancer. In fact, her indomitable nature and bubbly spirits were an inspiration and comfort to other patients undergoing cancer treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital.”

Although Harry still rides, he admitted it was Frances’ enthusiasm for cycling that kept him motivated.

Frances didn’t like the idea of a conventional gravesite and stone and simply requested a magnolia tree be planted in her memory, which the family did on their properties.
