had the pleasure of golfing with some great people at the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce tournament recently. The rain stayed away, the sun showed up for a bit and the course at Redwoods was in near-perfect shape, which is amazing considering the month we’ve had.
Well, golf courses are really pretty. It is an opportunity to sit in an idyllic setting, with birds twittering, a slight breeze rustling through the leaves and grasses, and watch the water fowl land and take off on the quiet pools and ponds. In between those 1.5 second bursts of adrenalin, you have to wait for golfers ahead to get out of danger of your shot, so this is your quiet time. A golfer’s family and co-workers will benefit from this calming experience and some personalities have to calm like this three or four times a week.
No one speaks loudly or moves unexpectedly, as you maintain the decorum of perfect ladies and gentlemen. It is a chance to bond with new friends. By the time five and half hours have passed, you know where each one works, what family they have, what hobbies and interests they enjoy. In fact, you probably learn more about a perfect stranger in that afternoon than you know about family or neighbours you have known for years.
