Go do it Yonder Mountain String Band

“Yooonder!” You hear that random cry more and more at summer festivals. In the past decade, Yonder Mountain String Band has grown into one of the major players on the jam-band circuit. “We’re not your grandfather’s bluegrass band or even your father’s bluegrass band,” bassist Ben Kaufmann has told the Statesman. “We’re kind of original by default. There’s not another bluegrass band like us out there.” Part of the band’s unique sound comes from its members’ pasts, which include experience in everything from punk and metal bands to dance theater. But much of Yonder’s appeal comes from its fearless live philosophy. “The thing that’s exciting to us is that we regularly find ourselves out on a limb,” Kaufmann said. “Why do people come see us or why are we having success? I think that the audience that’s coming to see us appreciates those unique, one-of-a-kind moments that only happen when a band is taking chances and is out on the jamming edge.”Michael Deeds
